2021 Schmidt Vocal Arts Alumni Grant
I am thrilled to announce that this year I was chosen as a recipient of the Schmidt Vocal Arts Alumni Grant! Schmidt Vocal Arts has played a very important role in my development as an artist from high school until now. The Schmidt Competition was the very first opera competition I sang in, and it was such a fantastic experience. Not only did I receive useful feedback from industry professionals and attend a masterclass, but it was the first time where everyone in the room shared the same interests as me.
I went on to attend the Schmidt Vocal Institute in 2018 where I was able to sing for Ricky Ian Gordon (a living composer!!!), Craig Terry (an opera coach at Lyric Opera of Chicago) and continue to hone my skills and grow in my love of opera.
Schmidt Vocal Arts has continued to help me grow in my artistry even up until where I am now, a senior at UNLV. My SVA Alumni Grant will be going towards my tuition at the Utah Vocal Arts Academy this summer where I will have the opportunity to play Cupid in a fully staged production of Orpheus in the Underworld. I will also be singing in scenes from Die Zauberflöte, L’elisir d’amore, and competing in the Death by Aria Competition.
